Tarot Card Pull #73
Eight of Pentacles
Welcome to the seventy-third card pull for the Mundane Magic project!
So happy to have you on this ride with me, looking at writing prompts, analyzing tarot cards for inspiration, and creating brand new short stories!
This Substack is for anyone who may be interested in how the creative writing process works, finding magical aspects about their everyday life, learning more about tarot card meanings, reading new short stories, or creating their own short stories.
Mundane Magic is a reader-supported publication. To receive new posts and support my work, consider becoming a free or paid subscriber.
For each tarot card writing prompt, I pull one card from an old Rider Waite deck I purchased years ago in Salem, Massachusetts. The cards are not returned to the deck to ensure a unique prompt each time. Then, I create an original short story based on the card and post it for your reading pleasure. The goal: 78 cards, 78 stories. I worked on a weekly schedule for the majority of the deck, but we’ve slowed it down a bit, so you’ll see a prompt/story post about every other week now.
If you are subscribing for FREE, you will have access to card pull posts like this, stories, and some musings along the way. You may choose to follow along for your own entertainment or inspiration for creating short stories of your own! FREE posts will remain free for you to access for six months before heading to the archive.
If you are a PAID subscriber, you will get access to all free posts, plus additional PAID ONLY content. You will have full access to ALL archived material AND have access to my podcast, which includes live recordings of card pulls.
On to today’s tarot card pull!
The card pulled today was the Eight of Pentacles.
For my initial reaction to the card, check out the podcast for PAID subscribers, Episode 73.
First impressions from the image: Here, we see a young man, working. He is carving into a golden pentacle. Aligned along the right side of the card, we see six other pentacles, and an eighth pentacle lying at the feet of the young man. He is seated, straddling a work bench. He is dressed in medieval attire: red tights, brown shoes, a blue tunic, and a work apron protecting his clothing. He works with a hammer and a chisel.
In the background, we can see, in the distance, a castle of some sort. The sky is clear. There are really no indicators of drama of any kind. We are presented with a peaceful scene of creativity here.
The Rider Waite interpretation of the Eight of Pentacles is as follows: An artist in stone at work. Divinatory Meanings: Work, employment, commission, craftsmanship, skill in craft and business. Reversed: Voided ambition, vanity, cupidity, exaction, usury.
The card was not pulled reversed today. It was pulled upright in relation to myself, the reader, but for the sake of creating a story, I always like to consider the reversed meanings as well. With this card, however, I really am feeling drawn to this idea of creativity over business, and thinking about the therapeutic value in expressing ourselves through craft.
Now what?
Our seventy-third card has now been drawn!
I will begin working on an original short story based on the prompt, and I hope that you use it as inspiration for introspection and creation of your own! Share what you were inspired to write or create, or let me know what the card is making you think about in regards to your own life or situation in the comment section.
If you like what we’re doing here, please consider sharing. Whether you are a free or paid subscriber, you will earn rewards for doing so, and it is the best form of advertisement, which helps me keep this project going!
Now, let’s make some magic!
